The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) confidence scale, designed to identify possible exaggeration or overreporting of somatic and cognitive complaints. It was originally designed to identify individuals who can simulate or exacerbate the manifestations of diseases in order to obtain benefits, for example, when filing claims for injury or disability. The scale includes selected MMPI-2 items related to physical symptoms and health conditions. High scores may indicate a possible exaggeration of symptoms, but interpretation requires consideration of the full clinical profile, as true diseases can also produce high values.
