Dystonicia

(absence – Greek – sound,) – inability to produce sound despite having the ability to whisper sound. Voice loss can occur as a result of acute or chronic conditions that affect the larynx, such as inflammatory processes, paralysis of the muscles of the larynx, tumors or scarring of the vocal cords (loss of true or laryngeal voice). It can also be functional (hysterical voice loss) and occurs in hysteria and other neurosis states. The immediate cause of voice loss is the lack of closure or incomplete closure of the true vocal cords, which leads to air leakage during speech.
