Bad habit

regularly repetitive behavior or action of a person that harms his health, mental state or social life, interferes with the achievement of goals and successful self-realization. Such habits often arise as automatic, obsessive actions that a person repeats even with negative consequences for himself and others. Examples of bad habits are smoking, alcohol abuse, drug use, overeating, as well as some psychological and behavioral addictions. Bad habits cause long-term damage to health, psyche and social relationships, often provoke diseases and reduce the quality of life.
