Gradual development of mental functions
A path of development of the child’s mental functions, during which basic mental functions begin to form in the form of simple sensory and motor reactions, and then the brain develops, contributing to the emergence of higher-ranking mental functions, such as planning, abstract thinking, problem solving and goal-setting. This timeline reflects the principle of cumulative development, according to which more complex mental functions depend on the consolidation and integration of simpler mental functions.
