A sense of coherence
A metacognitive measure that reflects the degree to which a person has a prolonged and pervasive sense that internal and external stimuli and stressors are in their environment. This concept reflects how people cope with and adapt to stressors, promoting mental and physical health, rather than focusing solely on illness. In short, according to Antonovsky, a sense of coherence is a person’s ability to perceive life in a way that is understandable, manageable, and meaningful, allowing them to effectively manage stress and turn challenges into opportunities for growth and mental health.
