Abnormal aphasia
A type of aphasia in which phonemic perception and pronunciation are impaired:
1) Associated with difficulties in finding words or names of objects, despite understanding sentences and being able to speak.
2) The injury is often localized in the temporal lobe or associative zones between the temporal and parietal lobes.
3) The child speaks fluently, but cannot name objects or people using alternative descriptions or common words such as “this” or “that”.
4) This type of aphasia affects the accuracy of communication, academic performance and the ability to express thoughts clearly.
5) Therapeutic intervention – naming exercises, the use of cards and pictures, as well as the consolidation of word-picture associations to facilitate terminological search.
