We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all those who contributed to the publication of the Emirati–Russian Encyclopedic Psychological Dictionary, the first pioneering scientific project of its kind at the local, Arab, and global levels. This valuable work, developed as part of the international strategic partnership between the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, named in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may his soul rest in peace), and the Ural Federal University, named after the first President of Russia, B. N. Yeltsin, one of the leading educational institutions in the Ural region of Russia, contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and the deepening of our understanding of psychological and behavioural sciences. We hope that everyone will benefit from this wonderful edition.

Special thanks and appreciation to the working group from both sides and the partners: the Abu Dhabi Health Department, the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Department of Government Enablement, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, the United Arab Emirates University, Abu Dhabi Media Network, and Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre.

We dedicate this distinguished scientific work to all learners and researchers seeking a deeper understanding of psychological concepts and the exchange of knowledge between cultures. It can enhance understanding and communication in both Arabic and Russian languages. Moreover, it facilitates the educational, learning, and research processes.

The dictionary enhances the social and cultural role of psychology in Emirati and Russian societies by providing psychological terms and concepts in both Arabic and Russian languages to promote public awareness of mental health issues and enhance psychological care in society. Given the importance of the Russian language in the field of psychology, as it contains rich specialized scientific concepts, this dictionary aims to provide accurate translation and interpretation of Russian concepts used in psychology, thus contributing to knowledge enrichment and scientific exchange.

The Emirati-Russian Psychological Dictionary contributes to the development of the field of psychology in the United Arab Emirates and Russia by understanding all branches of psychological sciences in theoretical foundations and practical applications. It provides practical guidance for assessing cases, diagnosing them, and implementing appropriate psychological therapy, serving as a reliable scientific reference in identifying the psychological and social needs of people of determination.

Abdullah Al-Humaidan

Director General of the Zayed Authority for People of Determination

This book represents a significant result of scientific collaboration between the Zayed Authority for People of Determination and the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin. It marks the first scientific attempt to create an Emirati-Russian Psychological Dictionary that promotes productive and sustainable academic cooperation between the UAE and Russia.

The Dictionary offers an extensive range of psychological terms and related information covering all major branches of psychology. It is designed to serve as a reliable reference and guide for the comprehensive study of psychological terminology in Russian and Arabic. The systematization of psychological knowledge accumulated by scholars from the UAE and Russia, and its presentation in an accessible lexicographic format, represents an important contribution to the development of academic collaboration and dialogue between the Arab and Russian scientific and cultural traditions.

The creation of a bilingual educational dictionary required addressing a wide range of theoretical and practical challenges, which would not have been possible without the continuous and inspiring support of the leadership of the Zayed Authority for People of Determination. We would like to express our special gratitude to Director General Al-Humaidan Abdullah Abdulali Abdullah and his team for their dedicated efforts and readiness to address all emerging tasks with exceptional efficiency.

One of the innovative ideas behind the Emirati-Russian Psychological Dictionary is to transcend the boundaries of terminology within a single language—boundaries that often appear essential to scholars—and to identify and describe universal mechanisms of knowledge transfer in psychological science. Guided by the principle that all people are unique yet equal, researchers from Russia and the United Arab Emirates sought both to reflect cultural distinctions and to unify key psychological approaches. Our joint work has revealed that the field of psychology shares far more common ground between our countries than might be expected.

For the scholars of the Ural Institute of Humanities at UrFU, it was a great honor to collaborate with colleagues from the UAE, exchange experience, implement a socially significant project, and become part of an active international community of psychologists.
