Adaptation syndrome (adaptation syndrome)
a set of adaptive reactions of the organism of a general protective nature; It occurs in response to significant adverse influences – stressors. The main manifestations of the adaptation syndrome are metabolic disorders with a predominance of the decay process, an increase in the adrenal cortex, a decrease in the thymus gland, spleen and lymph nodes. There are three stages:
1) the stage of anxiety – lasts from several hours to two days and includes the phases of shock and countershock, at the latter there is a mobilization of the body’s protective reactions;
2) the stage of resistance is characterized by an increase in the body’s resistance to various harmful influences;
3) the stage of stabilization and recovery or the stage of exhaustion, which can end in death.
