Agyria

A condition in which the cerebral cortex develops abnormally, especially in the absence or underdevelopment of the typical gyrus and sulci (sulki) of the brain, results in the formation of a smooth or nearly smooth surface of the brain and can cause a variety of neurological problems, including developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and movement disorders. Agiria is often associated with lissencephaly, a condition in which the brain looks smooth due to a lack of normal folds. The causes of agyria can be varied, including genetic factors, infections during pregnancy, or problems in fetal brain development.
