Akinesia

A neurological disorder characterized by a significant or complete lack of movement. Patients with akinesia have difficulty initiating movement or performing normal motor activities, a condition often seen in Parkinson’s disease, and can also occur in other diseases that affect the motor functions of the brain. Akinesia can be accompanied by rigidity (stiffness) and slowness of movement (bradykinesia). Akinesia occurs due to damage to the basal ganglia, the brain structures that regulate movement and coordination. It can also be a temporary side effect of the use of certain drugs, such as antipsychotics.
