Anarthria

A speech disorder in which a person loses the ability to pronounce words and sounds despite maintaining muscle strength and understanding language, is associated with damage to the motor areas of the brain that control the movements needed to articulate speech. Anarthria often occurs with strokes, injuries, or diseases affecting the motor pathways, and is accompanied by a complete loss of speech sound, although thinking and understanding remain intact.
