A medical term traditionally used to describe the sudden onset of severe neurological symptoms, often resulting from a stroke or cerebral hemorrhage. It is usually accompanied by rapid loss of consciousness, paralysis or sudden weakness on one side of the body, as well as speech or vision disorders. The term is now used less frequently, and specific conditions such as stroke or cerebral hemorrhage are more commonly diagnosed.
