A motor speech disorder in which the brain has difficulty planning and coordinating the movements necessary for speech. People with apraxia of speech can understand what they want to say, but they have difficulty controlling the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat to pronounce words, usually caused by damage to the motor areas of the brain responsible for speech production.
