Archetype

is the central concept of C. Jung’s analytical theory, denoting the structural elements of the psyche contained in the collective unconscious, common to all mankind. Archetypes are inherited. They organize mental activity, determine the structure of the personality and the sequence of images that arise in the mind in the process of creativity. Archetypes are the basis of the universal symbolism of myths, dreams, fairy tales, and legends.
