A neuropsychological disorder in which a person loses awareness or perception of a part of their own body, most commonly the left side, usually due to damage to the right parietal lobe of the brain. The patient may deny that the limb belongs, believe that it does not exist, or behave as if it does not belong to him. Asomatognosia is often seen after strokes or traumatic brain injuries and can be combined with other disorders such as chemineglect or anosognosia.
