A speech disorder in which the patient loses the ability to speak or produce meaningful speech, while speech comprehension and other cognitive functions are preserved. Aphemia is sometimes seen as a milder form of Broca’s aphasia, as patients may have difficulty articulating words and constructing sentences, but their ability to understand speech remains unchanged.
