A psychiatric term that means changes in the psyche towards isolation, a decrease in the need for communication, an escape from reality into the world of one’s own experiences. Autism is a manifestation of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), but it can also occur in neurotic disorders (autistic tendencies reflecting some isolation from the outside world, fixation on internal experiences).
