Autocratic leadership style

a leadership style characterized by an emphasis on individual authority and complete control over decision-making in a group or organization. In this style, the leader is the primary source of direction, setting goals, policies, and procedures single-handedly, without involving or consulting group members in the decision-making process. This style is known for its rigidity and discipline, as followers are expected to follow instructions unquestioningly. From a psychological perspective, an authoritarian leader promotes concentration on performance and discipline in the group, reducing distractions and disagreements that can interfere with tasks. This style also provides clarity of expectations and responsibilities, reducing uncertainty and increasing the speed of decision-making. However, it can reduce group members’ sense of belonging and participation, limiting the development of individual initiative and creativity. Socially, the authoritarian leader creates a strict and clear power structure within the group, where tasks are distributed according to the leader’s directives. This style is often used in situations that require quick and accurate decision-making, or in high-risk environments such as military operations or mission-critical projects, where strong organization and centralized control can prevent errors and ensure that deadlines and goals are met.
