Avoiding the topic in negotiations
One of the techniques that is used by participants in the negotiation process when issues that are undesirable for discussion are touched upon. This can be expressed in abrupt changes in the topic at critical points. This technique is focused on closing the position and is otherwise called “evading the fight”. Departure from the topic can be direct and indirect:
1) Direct withdrawal consists in the fact that the consideration of the issue is proposed to be postponed for some time, usually moving it to the agenda of another meeting.
2) Indirect withdrawal involves an indefinite answer to the question posed or ignoring the question.
