Behavioral environment

a concept that encompasses all the circumstances and factors surrounding a person that contribute to the formation of his behavior and guide his models of response to everyday life stimuli. It deals with the practical and functional aspects of human interaction with the environment, including systems and laws, customs and traditions, role models and behaviours, and reward and punishment patterns that a person encounters in society, family, work environment or school. The behavioral environment is the result of the interaction of internal factors (motives, emotions, experiences, values) with external factors (social stimuli, environmental pressures, cultural expectations, and prevailing patterns). It is the environment that gives a person clear signals about what behavior is acceptable or unacceptable, and determines the frame of reference by which people evaluate their actions.
