(from the Greek bradys – slow + mind, reason) – inhibition in the intellectual sphere, manifested by the difficult formation of thoughts, memories, ideas, a decrease in their total number, monotony and scarcity of content. Subjectively, bradyphrenia is experienced not only as a slowness of the flow of thoughts, their “inhibition”, but also as a painful feeling of “cotton”, “unclear thinking”, its “blunting”, when thoughts are perceived indistinctly, vaguely and seem illusory. Bradyphrenia can occur within the framework of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression, it is also noted in some forms of epilepsy after seizures and as a symptom of chronic intoxication.
