Localized purulent inflammation in brain tissue caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. It usually develops due to the spread of infection from neighboring areas (ears, sinuses, teeth) or by hematogenous route. An abscess causes swelling and damage to brain tissue, which can lead to headache, fever, seizures, focal neurological disorders, and cognitive disorders.
