A rare neurological condition caused by complete or partial damage to the spinal cord. It usually occurs in traumatic injuries such as spinal cord injuries, strokes or tumors. The syndrome is characterized by specific symptoms, where on one side of the body there is a loss of motor function (paralysis or weakness) and a deficit in proprioception (loss of sensations of touch, pressure or vibration), while on the opposite side there is a loss of sensations of pain and temperature. Brown-Séquard syndrome can lead to varying degrees of paralysis, loss of sensation, and autonomic dysfunction. Treatment is usually aimed at addressing the underlying cause (such as surgery or rehabilitation) and supporting the patient to regain function.
