California Verbal Memorization Test
The second edition (CVLT-II) is a neuropsychological assessment designed to measure verbal memory, learning, and information recall. During the test, participants are presented with a list of words from different categories (for example, animals, fruits, professions), and they are asked to recall as many words as possible after several repetitions of the list. The test assesses the ability to encode (remember) and recall (recall) verbal information, as well as the strategies used in coding. Participants are also encouraged to complete delayed memory and recognition tasks that assess how well they can retain and recognize information after a delay. CVLT-II is particularly useful for assessing memory deficits in people with neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, traumatic brain injury, or schizophrenia. It also provides insight into cognitive processes such as semantic coding, organization, and response to interference.
