A sudden, short-term episode of muscle weakness or loss of voluntary muscle tone caused by strong emotions, such as laughter, surprise, or anger, while maintaining full consciousness. Often associated with narcolepsy and dysregulated rapid eye movement (REM) during wakefulness.
