Cognitive Labeling Theory

The theory, developed by psychologists Stanley Schechter and Jerome Singer in 1962, is one of the fundamental theories of affective psychology. This theory aims to explain the emergence of human emotions by combining physiological arousal with cognitive processes (i.e., mental interpretation).
