Compensation of functions
full or partial compensation for underdeveloped, destroyed or lost functions of organs or systems of the body; restoration of integral activity disturbed after the loss of certain functions from its structure. It occurs either on the basis of preserved functions, or due to the restructuring of partially impaired functions. For example, the function of distinguishing sounds, which suffers from damage to the left temporal cortex, can be restored by involving the speech-motor and visual analyzers, and the compensation of visual function in a blind child usually occurs through the development of the sense of touch.
