A rare neurological disorder characterized by the inability to perceive sounds while the function of peripheral auditory structures (ears and auditory nerves) is preserved. It occurs as a result of bilateral damage to the primary auditory cortex or central auditory pathways, leading to a profound loss of auditory perception.
