Cryptomnesia (“unintentional plagiarism”)

A type of paramnesia, in which a person accepts as memories of the events of his own life stories heard from other people, read in books, seen in dreams or in movies, and so on. That is, the content of memories is preserved correctly, but the source of these memories is incorrectly reproduced. They can be observed both with and without quantitative memory disorders. In psychology, cryptomnesia is also called unconscious / unintentional plagiarism, when a person begins to take previously known other people’s ideas for his own new ideas, not realizing them as memories.
