A research method aimed at the qualitative and quantitative study of the set of chromosomes (karyotype) to identify chromosomal abnormalities that can be the cause of hereditary diseases, infertility or congenital malformations. The cytogenetic method includes the method of karyotyping (study of metaphase chromosomes) and determination of sex chromatin (study of interphase chromosomes).
