Depression Scale in the Elderly (GDS)
A screening tool designed to assess the presence and severity of depression in older adults. It consists of a series of yes/no questions regarding mood, social interactions, sleep, and cognitive function, with the goal of identifying depressive symptoms in older adults. The scale is available in short (15 questions) and full (30 questions) versions. A higher score indicates more pronounced depressive symptoms. GDS is widely used in clinical practice to diagnose depression in the elderly, monitor response to treatment, and distinguish between depression and other age-related diseases such as dementia.
