Diener’s theory of deindividuation
Explaining collective behavior in terms of a person’s loss of self-awareness and sense of individual responsibility when joining a group or a large crowd, which is known as deindividuation. According to this theory, when a person becomes anonymous within a group and integrates into a large crowd, he loses some of the internal constraints that limit his behavior and becomes more prone to aggressive, impulsive, or out-of-the-ordinary social behavior.
