Differences Between Psychological Correction, Psychological Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Psychiatry

These concepts differ in their essence, depth and goals, although they are all united by concern for the mental health of a person and are aimed at improving the quality of his life:
1) Psychological correction is the initial level of intervention, which has a preventive and educational nature. It aims to correct minor mistakes or deviations in behavior, thinking, or daily habits, without diving into deeper psychological conflicts or problems. This includes: changing teaching methods, improving interpersonal skills, or adapting human behavior.2) Psychological counseling is a deeper and more specialized level aimed at helping people understand themselves, develop their abilities and solve everyday or developmental problems. It focuses on guidance, training, and decision support, typically addressing issues of adaptation and personal growth rather than acute psychological issues.
3) Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is a deeper and more comprehensive approach that focuses on the direct treatment of psychological and behavioral disorders through systemic therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoanalysis, dialectical therapy, and group therapy. It focuses on changing patterns of thinking, behavior, and emotions, so it requires qualifications and specialized skills.4) Psychiatry is a biomedical aspect of mental health, practiced by psychiatrists with fundamental medical education. She specializes in diagnosing psychological disorders using medical criteria, prescribing appropriate medications and pharmacological treatments, and possibly applying other medical interventions (electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), for example), sometimes in combination with psychotherapy.
