Digital shock

An acute psychophysiological reaction of disorientation, anxiety, and cognitive overload that occurs when suddenly encountered with technology, digital data, or the online environment that radically disrupts habitual patterns of perceiving, interacting, or understanding the world. This is a defensive reaction of the psyche to a collision with an unmastered digital reality, which is perceived as a threat to the integrity of the personality and security. Digital shock also acts as a marker of the growing gap between the speed of technological change and the ability of humans to adapt. This phenomenon requires both technological solutions (data protection, AI ethics) and the development of digital resilience at the individual and supra-individual levels.
