Directed cognition

A concept in environmental psychology that describes how a person cognizes and understands the environment through directed and structured, rather than random, research. It is a process in which a person interacts with the environment in an organized manner in order to gather information, understand spatial characteristics, and learn to adapt to different environmental conditions. It is used in environmental education, environmental design and the study of human behavior in new conditions.
