Disfluent speech
Speech characterized by disruption of the normal flow of verbal expression, including pauses, repetitions, lengthening of sounds, or blocking. It can occur in the development of disorders such as stuttering, neurological disorders of motor control of speech, or cognitive impairment. Dysfluence affects the effectiveness of communication and is often accompanied by anxiety or frustration. The assessment includes an analysis of speech tempo, rhythm and types of dysfluentness to make a diagnosis and select correction methods.
