Disseminated Shape Test (EFT)
A psychological technique designed to assess a person’s cognitive style, in particular the ability to recognize simple shapes or shapes “hidden” within more complex visual compositions. The task is usually to find a small target shape in a large, detailed image. EFT performance is thought to reflect the level of field dependence-independence, a cognitive parameter associated with the ability to distinguish elements from a complex background, problem-solving strategies, and analytical thinking. The test is used in a variety of research areas, including the study of visual perception, attention, and individual differences in cognitive processing.
