Drive theory

A psychological theory that attempts to analyze, classify, or define psychological drives. Drive is the primary urge coming from organic needs, which can influence the behavior of an individual; “an excitatory state caused by a violation of homeostasis”. The theory of drives is based on the principle that organisms are born with certain psychological needs, and when these needs are not satisfied, a state of tension arises, which is burdensome for the individual. When the need is satisfied, the body returns to a state of homeostasis and relaxation.
