A neurocognitive disorder that affects a child’s ability to understand numerical symbols and mathematical operations. It manifests itself in the form of difficulties in mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or understanding basic numerical concepts. Symptoms of dyscalculia:
1) Difficulty remembering the multiplication table or simple arithmetic operations.
2) Problems with understanding numerical ratios and numerical sequences.
3) Inability to use appropriate numerical strategies to solve problems.
Causes of dyscalculia:
1) Deficits in executive functions such as planning, organization, and working memory.
2) Poor visuospatial integration required to understand numbers and symbols.
