Dysfunction in speech areas

Broca’s area and inferior frontal lobe are responsible for speech development and verbal expression, while Wernicke’s area and inferior temporal lobe are responsible for speech comprehension and analysis of phonetic symbols. Any dysfunction in these areas leads to a variety of speech disorders, including difficulty articulating, naming objects, understanding sentences and grammatical constructions, or using symbolic language. Children with this disorder may suffer from bradylalia, syntax errors, or an inability to understand verbal instructions correctly.
