A group of motor disorders characterized by involuntary, abnormal, and often excessive or chaotic movements. These movements can manifest themselves in the form of writhing, twitching, twisting or choreic movements, affecting various parts of the body. Dyskinesia often develops as a side effect of long-term use of dopaminergic drugs, especially in Parkinson’s disease, but can also occur in other neurological or metabolic conditions. The intensity and frequency of dyskinesias can vary and significantly impair motor control and quality of life.
