Emotional coarsening

a psychopathological symptom characterized by the loss of subtle emotional differentiations, which is most clearly manifested in the sphere of higher feelings and in relations with others. The previously inherent restraint, delicacy, courtesy, tact, self-esteem and respect for others are lost, disinhibition, importunity, cynical attitude, boastfulness, unceremoniousness, arrogance are not observed, and elementary norms of decency are not observed. Primitive emotional reactions (lower, biologically determined emotions) aimed at satisfying one’s momentary needs prevail in behavior. Emotional coarsening can be observed in organic disorders accompanied by a decrease in the level of intelligence, and addictions.
