Emotional duality (ambivalence)

a psychopathological symptom manifested in the coexistence of different (often polar opposite) feelings in relation to the same object. Emotional duality characterizes a conflict of values and is typical for a neurotic personality. Extreme variants of ambivalence are manifested by the inability to realize the fact of antagonism of polar emotions arising at the same time, which indicates a deep degree of splitting of the personality.
