Environment and decision-making (environmental and political pressures)
The environment is a system of pressure that influences decision-making, both individual and political. Environmental problems, such as resource scarcity, pollution, or natural disasters, are themselves factors that influence economic and social decisions. Moreover, environmental policy is the result of a balance between local pressures (citizens’ demands, environmental realities) and global pressures (climate change, international pressures). At the individual level, the physical and social environment influences how people make everyday decisions: the choice of housing, means of transportation, or how to consume energy.
