Environmental Dependence Syndrome

A behavioral disorder in which a person’s actions are excessively determined by external stimuli, often leading to automatic imitation or the use of objects around them without conscious intention. Most often associated with damage to the frontal lobes of the brain due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, tumors, or neurodegenerative diseases. Manifestations may include imitative behavior, where a person involuntarily copies the actions of others, and usage behavior, where they compulsively use nearby objects. Treatment is aimed at correcting the underlying pathology and developing behavioral strategies to reduce inadequate reactions.
