Ependymal cells

epithelial-like cells of neuroglia, lining all the ventricles of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. Ependymocytes perform support, delimitation, and secretory functions in the central nervous system. The bodies of ependymocytes are elongated, at the free end there are cilia (lost in many parts of the brain after the birth of an individual). The beating of cilia promotes the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. There are slit-like junctions and plexus bands between adjacent cells, but there are no tight junctions, so that cerebrospinal fluid can penetrate between them into the nervous tissue.
