Executive Dysfunction Syndrome

A complex neuropsychological condition resulting from damage to the frontal lobes of the brain or their neural networks. It is manifested by impairments of executive functions, including planning, problem-solving, cognitive flexibility, attention regulation, control of inhibitions, working memory, and decision-making. Patients often have difficulty initiating and organizing behaviors, regulating emotions, and social interaction, which significantly affects daily life and quality of life. It is often found in traumatic brain injury, stroke, frontal lobe dementia and other neurological diseases affecting the fronto-subcortical chains.
