Finger-nose test

A neurological test to assess motor coordination, proprioception, and cerebellar function. The patient is asked to touch the tip of his or her nose with the tip of his index finger, usually with his eyes closed, sometimes repeatedly or alternating hands. Inaccuracy, tremors, or difficulty performing a task may indicate cerebellar dysfunction, loss of proprioception, or motor pathway disorders. The test is often used in a routine neurological exam when there is a suspicion of impaired coordination or balance.
