Fist-rib-palm test
A neurological test to assess the motor sequence, coordination, and function of the frontal lobes. The patient is asked to repeatedly tap the surface with one hand in three positions: clenched fist, edge of the palm and open palm. The sequence is repeated several times in the same order. Difficulty performing, errors, or slowing down may indicate frontal lobe dysfunction, basal ganglial lesions, or other impaired movement control. The test is often used to examine patients with suspected Parkinson’s disease, frontal lobe injuries, or apraxia.
