Flattening of the emotional response
(also known as “flattened affect”) a decrease in the intensity and range of a person’s emotional expressions. According to the ICD-10 glossary, “flattening of emotional response” is “a severely reduced or indifferent emotional response. The face and voice are inexpressive and there is no emotional reaction when the topic of conversation changes.” Flattened affectivity is characteristic of psychopathic personalities, for example, persons with schizoid personality disorder, as well as persons suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
